Why arent my 2 female hamsters getting alon i got them at different times but 1 of them hadbabys and2007-11-24 22:19:14

abt the baby eating there are a numer of reasons

1)the mother feels threatened

2)the mother can sense that the baby is weak and thus eat it up as a source of protein for the other babies

3)u touched the babies and left ur scent on them

if it wasnt the mother that ate the baby but the other female, it could be a sign of dominance...

wait..if u have 2 females, how can u have babies?? ud better check their gender properly

Well for one hamsters are solitary animals and you cannot keep them together when they reach sexually maturity. they will eventually kill or maim each other. The one mother probally ate her babies becasue she was stressed by the other female. That is a hamsters way although it does not make much sense. You have to seperate these animals now as it seems that they are not getting aong. To not do so would be irresponsible.

Hamster's are solitary animal's & they prefer to live alone! If u continue to keep them in the cage, the more aggressive one WILL eventually really hurt, or even kill the other one! Pet stores have even told me it's ok to keep hamster's in pair's but I have yet to have that be successful. unless it's male/female. Even then, the female won't accept the male unless she is in heat! And once she's done, she will start showing aggression toward the male! Why not? She got what she wanted, now he can go home! lol. U should really go online to reasearch hamster's so u have the knowledge of how to care for them.>>>Good Luck>>>ZETA
