Why did my mouse do that*^*^*^ Please click here*^*^*^2007-11-24 22:19:17

When I had a mouse named oreo she'd escape every night orsoand get into my rats cage! She could eaisily get in and out of my rats cage because the wiring was 1/2 in. the first time she did this i thought they killed her becauce she was curled up in the bedding... sleeping! I even turned the cage around because the rat's cage was next to her cage so i thought maybe she had a certin spott she got out of... but sure enough the next morn. she was in there with them! She did this up until the day she died, about a week after she started, my mini poodle killed her, not my rats luckily, i still have them. Oreo was housed with another mouse, could it be she wanted someone to play with and she didnt like snowflake,(the other mouse), and she liked Sugar and Buiscut, the rats, more??

Answers:

It was probably just curiosity. When she got out of her cage, she probably followed the rats' scent into their cage. Just be thankful that the rats didn't attack him. And yeah, you probably should have gotten another cage, but I don't think her death was your fault (unlike OTHER people). And also, you can own more than one pet (such as rats AND mice). Anyway, that's my two cents! :-)

All animals have a natural curiosity. He likely got out, and then would get into a panic and go to the nearest cage... your rat's cage. You should have mended the cage, or got a new one. It was very irresponsible of you, and now the mouse is dead, and it is mainly your fault.
Could be. She may have liked the rats housing more but I would reccomend doing something b/c it's dangerous for her to be out of her cage by herself.
I don't know but you really should have gotten a better cage once you noticed this strange behavior, one she couldn't escape from. i agree, that was pretty irresponsible.
She may have just liked to explore. I had one mouse that would crawl out of her cage, explore for an hour and then climb up into bed with me every night.
Very Strange. Rats and mice don't usually get on together.

Maybe he was bored. You probably should of got a different cage. What gender were the mice? Did you have lots of toys in the cage to play with??

I would recommend getting another mouse to keep Snowflake company. If that mouse does it too, ask your vet.

By the way you should only have mice OR rats.

Don't bite of more then you can chew.

She probably just was curious. And I just want to add that I think a couple of the people that answered this question were very rude.
