Why did this happen to my guinea pig twice2007-11-24 22:19:17

2 times i have seen my guinea pig with a huge ball of crap in his butt that just clogs up. but he can still poop but why is it there. also i have to push it out for him and just now i just pushed out the second one is there a reason he's getting these

Some male guinea pigs suffer from impaction. If it happens once, you can count on it happening from now on. His muscles are not strong enough to expel the cecal pellets that he makes, so they get stuck in his perineal sac. Does he get lots of fruits and vegetables? That happened to my guinea pig it was like diarrhea (but would get stuck)and so when i stopped giving him fruit and vegetables every day it didn't happen anymore. Try and change his eating habits and see if it stops.

He probably has something called impaction. Only males can get it. I forget exactly causes it but you will have to keep gently cleaning it out for him, with some Q-tips and mineral oil.
