Why do Hamsters each their babies2007-11-24 22:19:19

Sometimes they do this because some of the babies have something wrong with them, sometimes it's because there are too many and not enough room, sometimes it's because the mom is stressed out cuz the owner is freaking it out of it's too loud or something, and sometimes it's because they just don't know what to do because they are new at it.

You can't really do anything if she decides to eat them, but you can put a lot of bedding and food and nuts so she has enough nutrients and don't pick her up or annoy her for a couple of days or so when she's pregnant and has babies.

well if a human touches the babies before they r ready to be touched the mother will not like that and will smell ur sent on the babies and eat them so dont touch them...

the fist time mom hamster will prolly eat her babies because she doesnt want to take care of them, try to get her to keep having litters until she knows that she is supposed to take care of them. I HOPE THIS HELPED

she may have smelled your scent? or been under stress? it's best to remove the male before she has the babies.

Well the mother will eat her pups when she thinks they're in danger or one is sick or she smells human sent on them.
