Why do female hamsters kill their young
then the mother doesn't and wont care for it anymore
because of the smell, did u touch the baby hamster?
and if u didn't it could be because the mother is freaked out
so she does this. Your best bet is to contact your local vet
and also separate the mother from her young.
because their are bay itches.
all i know is if you touch the babies, they eat it.
Only thing you can do is leave her alone. They kill and sometimes eat there young from being stressed out. If your hamster is a high bred she might be genetically prone to being high strung and nervous.
Put her in a dark quiet place before she has babies. If she has already done this more then likely she is ruined, but you can try again.
A misconceptions people have about hamsters is they are only vegetarians. Not so! Buy her a cricket at the pet shop or some other "clean" bug, she will gobble it down.
You are not going to stop her no matter what you do, but you can help her by not sticking your hands in the cage, or face to the cage, or tapping the cage which is the biggest no no. Never touch pinkies, ever!! Once the female has seceded in have one healthy litter more then likely she will have another.
I am unable to have critters such as hamsters any longer, one female equals ten which equals a hundred! Bred these critters for pet shops for YEARS
