I raise teddy bear hamsters and here are a few reasons. First of all some female hamsters may be young mothers. They get scared and they eat their young. Second of all if you touch the babies or their environment, they will smell it. They will kill their babies cause they feel like they cant protect them. They are not evil. They are very protective. Last but not least, they kill their young cause they can detect defects. Hamsters do not let defective babies live. Its their instinct. They are loveable creatures. So if your hammy does kill their young, dont be mean to it. It is how they do things in their world.

Rodents as small as hamsters and rabbits cannot survive with out the care of their mother. They are ALMOST impossible to hand feed with out killing them of aspxiation. You cant stop them from eating their babies. When you turn your back they will pack them in the jouls until they eat them or pile them in a corner.

Theyer usually hungry. So keep them feed. Dont kill her thats MEAN! Its just the way they are. Separate them after about 4 weeks.

Feed them reguarly...and don't leave them in the same cage for over an hour...and try as hard as posible to keep an eye on them when they are in the same cage...Good luck : )

you can prevent her from killing most. they kill and eat their babies because they're not getting enough protein and the babies happen to be the best source of protein around. your best bet if she has another litter is to change the food you give her, check the nutrition facts on the back and see if it has a more fair amount of protein than the usual food you give her.

i will NEVER have another hamster in my life. they are wrong, vile , little creatures who have scarred me for life. i was 10 and i'm a whole lot older now and i still remember those poor pink little things.
