Why do guinea pigs chatter their teeth2007-11-24 22:19:18

the guinea pig bubble gum,at my friends, makes a chattering noise when he's not eating.also,he's 8 years old and dosent squeal any more. we were wondering why he does this.please tell us. Thanks!

when guinea pigs chatter their teath that means that they are angry. Your friends probably get too close for comfort for your pig. I had a friend stick her head in my pigs cage and he started chattering his teeth

An 8 year old guinea pig...wow! You're fortunate to have had him for so long! Chattering teeth typically is a way a guinea pig lets you know they're distressed - be it from other pigs, other people, displeasure, etc. It's possible this change in behavior is his way of letting you know something isn't quite right with him, i.e. he may be ill. However, being he's so old, it's possible that he's just aging and can't take stress very well. Perhaps consider moving him to an area where he's won't be around many loud noises. Good luck!
