Why do hamsters bite people2007-11-24 22:19:18

my old hamster died so i got another one and ive had this one for about 2 months and it just started to bite me i havent done anything wrong to it, i went to go feed it and it attacked my hand

It isn't used to humans, and it's scared, you have to hold it more and let it get used to humans holding it. Put an old toilet paper holder in the cage and let it crawl in and then pick it up so it doesn't bite you and then keep holding it everyday and let it know you aren't going to hurt it.

They're animals of prey. They are naturally used to defending themselves against predators, aka you. It's a scared habit. I would recommend trying to let your hamster trust you more. Feed him from your hand, hold him as much as you can, and just talk to him to have him be used to you.

Usually I will cut back on his/her food supply. Once he/she is very hungry you hand feed 'em. This will make a slave to master relationship and soon your terriyaki chicken will love to be held by you.

They're juss tryin to protect themselves. They feel threatened when you reach into their cage.
