Why do hamsters run round in a wheel all night
hamsters need lots of exercize and so they run in there wheel alot, also hamsters teeth never stop growing and so they have to chew on something this is probably why they chew on the cage bars.
they need to excersice and this is the way they do it ,,,,,,,,,,
Hamsters are nocturnal animals and sleep during the day, to come alive at night!
Running on his wheel is just exersising himself like we'd do on a treadmill, he's using his energy up and keeping fit, and gnawing on the bars of the cage is sharpening, trimming and cleaning his teeth, rodents teeth just carry on growing throughout their lives so its their way of ensuring they stay trim.
You can buy gnaw sticks for them, which are fruity tasting wooden stick things, you can add all sorts of boxes and tubes (Loo roll insides) for it to chew up. they love it! Keep it occupied and your grandson will have a happy hamster!
He does it to get exercise. In the wild hamsters will wander miles each night looking for food.
The chewing is to wear down his teeth.Hamsters are rodents and their teeth grow constantly so they need to chew on hard things a lot to keep them down.
As for sleeping all day that's not because of the exercise it's because hamsters are nocturnal-i.e. they only come out at night.
They are nocturnal.
