Why do hamsters squeak2007-11-24 22:19:19

My hamster squeaks a lot - I've read that they do this when in distress but I don't think he is - I think hes just talkative..is this possible?

A hamster will only do this when it feels threatened!! He's not talking to you he's freaked out !!

Well I have never had a hamster but i have had a gerbil and he didn't squeak at all. But i have had 2 guinea pigs and they squeaked all the time mainly when they wanted out of their cage or was hungry.So maybe your hamster is wanting food or you to hold him. I hope this helped you!

I have a hamster and I've never heard her squeak. Possibly she is frightened of something.

Idk but my gerbil does the same thing and my sister's hamster snorts like a pig (it is super funny)

miines dont sqeak..i think something is wrong with urs..its probably in TERRIBLE pain because usually hamsters dont make noise cuz its a survival tactic for them not to show ANY pain at all..take it to a vet immediatly
