Why do some Pet Rats have red eyes2007-11-24 22:19:49

What makes them red is the lack of pigment - what you are actually seeing is the reflection of light off of the blood vessels in the animal's eye.

The red eyes do tend to be more sensitive to UV light because of the lack of pigment, so remember to always shield the ratties eyes when going outside or travelling!

some animals(hamsters, wolfs,some cats,owls,and more) have diffrent colered glowing type eyes.this is becuase they are nocturnal.they sleep in the day, they awake at night.these eyes make the animal see clearly at night so its normal for the rat to have red eyes.

Not only rats have red eyes - guinea pigs can, so can rabbits, hamsters, gerbils... most rodents can have red eyes. It DOES NOT mean they are albino: guinea pigs for one, cannot be albino - they are known as pink eyed whites. Many rodents with red eyes do not have white coats either - they can be any colour.

I dunno if a white rat with red eyes is an Albino though.

If they have red eyes they must be albino. There eyes are red because they lack pigment.

animals that have red eyes, not just rats are called albinos.

if you mean your rat is actually crying blood this is a disease rats can get and often means they are stressed which can be down to many different problems e.g. the cage is to small e.t.c.

My rat looks like a Siamese cat (coloring) and she has red eyes, I've never figured out why though...
