No, don't discipline your guinea pig. As prey animals they are naturally skittish. I've had mine for over a year, and although they are quite socialized, they always run when its time to be picked up!

How big is your cage? Trying to pull a bigass guinea pig out the small door of those little cages is just asking for trouble. I'd make sure I had a cage big enough for two pigs, about 10.5 sq. feet.

I would advise you to make the room very quiet when you want to talk to your little guy. Offer yummy treats and do this, and only this for a couple days. After that, pick him up, very carefully. You cannot scoop them up with one hand because they are not as robust as they look. There bones are very brittle.

Don't show fear of being bit, just pick it up with two hands. Hold your piggie to your chest for about 10-15 minutes (they have very tiny bladders) and talk gently to it while holding and pet gently. Put him back and try it again a few times per day, but always speak gently and softly for a second or two before picking up.

Your pig will come around. You might also consider getting another guinea pig for a companion. Guinea pigs are highly social and often get depressed when housed alone.

I have 2 guinea pigs, And If you just got it let it be for a couple of hours or so. But you may be picking it up wrong. Try supporting its back and be gentle with it and dont handle it like its some sort of a dog.

prolly cuz some mysterious gigantic thing that's like the size of a skyscraper (to him) just lifted him off the ground & he has no freakin clue what the heck is hapening, but he's not sure he likes it...

You need to hold it so it gets used to you. Don't neglect it! (I'm guessing you haven't had it long...) Feed it so your scent gets on its food. Hand feed it as much as possible and just hang out.Throw on a good cd and let him (or her) chill with you...It'll be all good.

Maybe u smell like food. Or it could be that its lonely and getting very depressed. I have two guinea pigs and they never bite me unless i handle it wrong. good luck!

Guinea pigs usually only bite if they are scared and therefore defending themselves, if they can smell food or mites.
