Why does my guinea pig bite me2007-11-24 22:19:52

you have to keep at it though, I have Brazilian possums, and while their teeth are small, they can still give a quick and nasty nip, rarely drawing blood, but pain full anyway.

it took me about three months of persistence with them.

so, just keep trying, talk low and calm and stroke her and don't walk around holding her, she will eventually get the idea that you dont want to hurt her.

My guinea pig is really shy.The only time it bites me is because my finger was in front of his face so it thinks it's food so it just nibs on me.

she could be pregnent if it is a girl. they dont like being picked up when pregnant.

The first thing that always comes to mind is mites. This is usually the reason for consistent biters. Get her treated with ivermectin. Only good can come of it.

Sometimes young pigs nip, but they grow out of it. One of my pigs lightly nips. He is younger. He's not mad or trying to hurt me. He is "grooming" me like he would another pig.

try washing your hands before you play with her, you might have the smell of some food on your hands. Thats what happened with my sister after she ate a muffin.

Maybe its not happy or it doesn't like being handled because Guinea Pigs hardly ever bite, its not normal for them.
