Why does my guinea pig do this2007-11-24 22:19:53

My male guinea pig (no other guinea pigs around) will often make his chattering warning sound for no apparent reason. He likes it when the front door of his cage is opened, I have never seen him out of the door, but he likes to poke his head out and look around.

Often when I'm at my desk or whatever, like 4.5 feet away sideways, he can randomly chatter. Also he'd chatter when he's walking around his cage,looking like he does when he sometimes chuts. It's a little odd...any input?

Also, while you're here, is it ok to feed him wet grass? Sometimes I run out of alphalfa and substitute the dry farmer-cut stuff out in one of the nearby fields (looks exactly like what I buy at the petshop). So is it ok to feed it to him if it's wet or damp? I would think it is, after all in the wild they'd have damp or wet grass too, right?

Yes, its ok to feed wet grass as long as it has not been treated with pesticides or fertilizer. Stay away from grass on the side of the road that might be contaminated with dirt, oil, or lawnmower/car fumes.

Sadly, a guinea pig that starts 'teeth-chattering' normally indicates that they are sad and unhappy. If your guinea pig is chattering towards another guinea pig, it is hinting to this guinea pig to stay away. If your guinea pig's hair on its neck is standing up when looking at the other guinea pig, seperate them immediately before they strike. It is a good idea to put a towel over them to confuse them, then pick them up that way to seperate them, otherwise they could attack.

My guinea pigs use to do that and fight a lot what I did was make sure theres always food and give them both attention.
