Why does my guinea pig like chicken2007-11-24 22:19:20

okay...i know they're vegatarians...but somehow...i dont know why..mines loves chicken!...is this bad..can she get sick?...she'll eat almost anything..ive had for a year and 6 days :D..and she was 4 months old when i got her..and when she turned 5 months i was eating..and i put a small piece by her mouth and she ate it up!..my old guinea pig (deceased) never ate meat..so why does my new do?

Let's just say that guinea pigs are generally supposed to be vegetarians - just like cats are supposed to be carnivores. But sometimes there are exceptions to the rules. Here's my point: one of my cats loves to eat bananas, peaches, tomatoes, etc. Just like your guinea pig, he's unique. I might not give your guinea pig chicken all the time, but once in awhile can't hurt.

I wouldn't feed him or her chicken at ALL!

It could be causing him/her some problems- you just don't know at all

Chicken should not be a staple food in your guinea pigs diet. It is on the list of things that are not recommend to feed your guinea pig along with dairy products, nuts and seeds. As to why she likes it? Who knows, maybe you should offer her different food as she may be bored of what she is currently having. Whilst chicken will not kill your guinea pig in moderation it is not recommended.

Maybe shes just different. I'm not sure whether its bad for her or not, since I've never tried feeding either of my boys meat. I think it should be okay though

Guinea pigs and all rodents will eat meat if it is available.
