Why does my guinea squeak2007-11-24 22:19:21

i just got my guinea like a couple days ago shes a baby one month old <3 ive held her before and she wasnt squeaking and then i just took her out a day ago and held her and had her in the blanket and was petting her and then she started making a squeaking like sound ... then she stopped and then i gave her to my sis to hold and she wasnt squeaking at all she was just lying there. ... my guinea has done this twice too me is she scared or happy?

I was worried too, when I first heard my first guinea pig squeak. I thought that I was doing something wrong, but really, all it is is their way of communicating. They make purring noises, wheeking noises, grumbling noises etc. If you want you can use the following sites to try and work out what she wants:

I used to guinea-sit for one of my friends and I noticed that they started squeaking the minute I headed for the food bowl. If she isn't in any pain and she hasn't shown any signs of fear, I would say that it's her way of showing affection.

I had guinea pigs that squeeked all the time. It was just their way of communication. They did it from the time we got them to the time they all died (we had a lot over the years) and all of them did it at one point. Its nothing to be concerned about.

Shes a baby so she probably wants her mommy because if its a girl they say that guinea pig moms are closer to their baby girls plus shes growing and she needs to squeek but its nothing i wouldn't worry about. Shes a cute guinea pig trying new things :) <333

it pretty much means "were the heck is the fooood??!"

so just try hand feeding her food.
