Why does my hamster Flapjacks smile all the time2007-11-24 22:19:22

Even when no one is around, he will smile. Does this mean he has brain damage?

I'm with Chuvarot. My sister's hamster looks like she's smiling when her teeth get too long. What happens is that the teeth get so long that they can't fully close the mouth. You need to look into getting his teeth clipped. If you don't get them clipped soon, the teeth might grow into his brain and then he will have brain damage. Call a vet to see how much a tooth clipping is going to cost.

honestly i have never heard of smiling as a sympton of brain damage.

it may look like a smile, but that could be his straight face.

maybe because he has overgrown teeth...my friend has a hamster that has overgrown teeth also..and he looks like he is smiling all day...hehehe!

Your hamster may have overgrown teeth because when their teeth get too long,their mouth can't close it,and it'll look like a smile.You should give something for it to chew on.If you don't,its teeth will keep growing and growing until it dies.
