Why does my hamster chew the bars
Sleep with one eye open.
mine used to do that, i found out it was boredom.
i bought them lots of chews and toys and they are happier now.
they come out in their exercise balls every night also. that keeps them entertained and healthy.
of course they also have a wheel inside there cages. the bigger the cage, the better they are.
tunnels are fun for them too.
Lol some of those other answers made me laugh.
But i had a hamster which chewed the bars and i couldn't get to sleep at night because it was so noisy, i tried everything.. i made his cage as exciting as possible, gave him chews. But he still chewed the bars.. I put cloth over the cage to shut him up but he chewed that as well. So i left him to it. I think they just like to be awkward.. I put an apple in his cage at night once, and that stopped him chewing the bars.. greedy little thing.
It wants to escape. GIve it a break by letting it run a lot in the ball, and make sure it's cage is big enough and has a lot of fun things to do.
Hamster bite on bars because it need to chew on something. I had a frioend that owned a hamster and its teeth grew so long it like took up its whole mouth. it soon after that died. Just get it a chew toy or something too chew on. They sell them at about all pet stores. I feel really bad for that hamster. it was named meep.
It needs to file down it's teeth, because if it doesnt they'll just keep growing and growing and not stop and wont be able to eat. That's why you should buy some toys for them to chew on..they have toys made out of wood and etc at pet stores.
OK I have a hamster who use to (he doesn't now)and she chewed and chewed I couldn't even sleep but then I gave her these chew things and it stopped it a little bit and then it was just chew but then I got her a NON-bar cage and sold the other one or you could just trade it.
its trying to get out or its teething
Partly for its teeth and partly to escape
it helps make their teeth shorter so that they can continue eating because hamsters' teeth grows continously and if it grows too long, they can't eat.
ur hampster just probaly got the munchies
they are trying to gnaw down their teeth , hamsters have the urge to "escape" all the time even though the "home" you provide them is very comfortable. it's normal , but definitely noisy..
because their bored stuck in a little sh*ty cage all day and they want to escape! wouldnt you!
i had the same problem but mine actually chewed a hole in the side of his cage they might be bored (u dont no do you) i got some chewy treats and activity bits for him to do he aint done it since
Hamsters do this to keep their teeth down, try buying a wooden chew toy from a pet store, at least it will be quieter
Once I've taken my hamsters out and place them back in their house, they bite on the bars. They love that freedom. If your hamster is a girl, she might be pregnant? Mine did that a few days before she gave birth. Try buying fruit flavored wood chips. Goodluck!
he could be bored
