Why does my hamster have2007-11-24 22:19:23

i have a male hamster and he has always had big testties. is this normal or is he just realy fourtunate? i thought that he was realy backed up and then we put a female in the cage and he went to town and they had babies and he still had a big bulge. they drag on the ground when he walks. is this normal or what? thanks

LOL! Yeah very normal!!

My male hamster is a year old and his are massive. They are usually more prominant and hang out of their body if they are sleepy, warm or generally relaxed.

It makes a good talking point though does'nt it?? My husband is very proud of how big our hamster harry's balls are. It can be alarming the size that they actually are. When Harry wakes up they actually drag across the floor!

He has just had his yearly check up and the vet said he is perfect, he is just a stud of a hamster, and if he lived in the wild he would be making an awful lot of female hamsters pregnant! You just have a stud for a hamster. Be proud of his bits.

One little fact for you though... Hamsters testicles make up a third of their body weight! So I promise your hamster is normal.

Just like some human men are fortunate, this is what your hamster has.

Not a defect, doesn't need medical attention. Though, if they are causing him discomfort (rubbed raw, perhaps?) you could look into having them removed.

Yes, it is normal. Most rodents have unusually large testicles. Some males seem to be better "endowed" than others, but for the most part, rodents seem to be large... at least in THAT area.
