Why doesnt my hamster drink water2007-11-24 22:19:54

i jus got her 5 days ago n she hasnt drank none

If a hamster is not eating or drinking take him to the vet quickly. It might be a sign of old age. If the Hamster feels cold, and refuses to move, it could either be hibernating or dead. Try to keep Hamsters away from drafts, they really don't like it. If it's new to the home, its normal for them to reject food and water and look pitiful for a while. This will also vary depending on the animal and its exact species. For instances, Dwarfs have a harder time adjusting, where as short hairs, may have no trouble at all.

when a ha,ster doesn't drink water often or at all u should probably tajke it to a vet because it means it is very sick and could die.

Does it have one of those little water bottles? If you know for sure it hasn't had a drink in that time, take to the vet asap or her kidneys will fail real soon. You may also be missing her drinking, I don't often see mine drink, but I see the water go down.

she is probably drinking when you aren't around...check the water level in the bottle daily...and make sure water is coming out of the bottle when you touch the little ball at the end

this is strange because hamsters like most animals need to drink frequently. if she's still timid from the move she could be afraid. try cleaning your water bottle VERY well with pure watr nothing from the tap, and see how that works, but... shes itty bitty, shes gotta be thirsty. if she wont drink from the cleaned water bottle, or a small bowl (represents a puddle shed drink from in the wild) take her to the vet, or flush her and buy a new one.

Try giving her a bowl instead of a water bottle, or vice versa, depending on what you've been using. My rabbit refused to use his bottle, so we switched to a bowl, and he's been doing fine.

Firstly, are you sure your hamster hasn't had anything to drink for 5 days? It just seeems like a long time to go without water. It may be getting some fluids from her food like from fresh fruit or vegetables but she will still need to drink. Try keeping a water bottle and a small bowl of water available in case it prefers one and not the other and see if that makes a difference. Also if you are sure that she hasn't been drinking and still won't drink you should call a vet and ask someone there for their advise. I have called a couple of times and the nurse gave me great advise on what i could do at home.

You may want to check her water bottle and make sure that it is working properly...if so, than you better go see a vet before your hamster is harmed from dehydration.

She was probably already sick when you got her. She is severely dehydrated right now if she hasn't had anything to drink since you brought her home.
