Why has my hamster gone bald on his back2007-11-24 22:19:55

its furs was dropping a lot and only the part on its upper body are almost gone and hairless...i fed him only for 3-4 months.anyone can help me??im very sad at here...sob...sobs...i very need the expert or professional helping or others experience opinion...thanks a lot!!

You better take him to a vet. If your hamster has lost any weight, fur, appatite, or has watery stools that is a good sign that he is sick. He could be allergic to something in his cage so you better think about that one. Have you put him in a place that is near a window or draft? He can get a cold easily from the temperature and from anyone in the household who has been ill and has come in contact with him. Please take him to a vet to have him checked out, whether it is something minor or serious. It could save his life.

Hi.

It's simple really. Hampsters go bald like that because they are allergic to the bedding that you are using. i have two hampsters that are allergic to wood shavings as bedding. If you simply switch out the bedding with another type the hair will grow right back. Also,try rubbing a little aloe vera on the bald spot. it will help with the dry skin that they can get.
