Why has my hamster started loosing weight so quickly2007-11-24 22:19:55

My hamster was fine up until about three days ago when he started loosing weight. He is a male Syrian. When I started noticing that he was loosing weight i started to give him some more treats to fill him up. For example I gave him some banana baby food and a hamster treat everyday. Unfortunatly he is still loosing weight! Does anyone have any answers?

Answers:

The age of the hamster can be the reason why he is losing weight. Their life expectancy is only about 3 years. Also they can get infections very easily and lose weight from that. Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do for them once they get to that point.

How old is he? Has he been doing more exercise?

im sorry but this happened to my gerbil. he is probally in his last couple days. i took him to the vet and he died there. that is better than watching them die at your house. if he is old, than he is probally just really tired and ready to leave. if he is young, he probally has a disease. pets from pet stores are most likely to get sick and die quicker. sorry :[
