Why is my guinea pig angry now2007-11-24 22:19:57

I recently bought a guinea pig and two weeks later I bought another one. They are both females and got along fine the first few days. Now my original guinea pig makes an angry noise all the time and chases the new one around their cage. I don't understand what is causing this. Any suggestions?

hmm. im guessing it might be a jealousy thing. i wouls suggest seperating them for a few days, and then seeing how the guinea pig acts, if she doesnt make the angry noise, then you should probably get a seoerate cage for the other one so they don't get jealous or fight.

Females are territorial. They may just need a bigger cage, or of course two separate cages.

I have that problem too with my guinea pigs but mines are boy and girl and sometimes they make noises but I think It might becaue there hungry cuz they don't like each other

Firstly did you quarantine the new guinea pig for 3 weeks behind closed doors. If you brought your new guinea pig from a pet store than it is highly likely that the new piggy has given mites and an URI to your other guinea pig. Here is information on quarinting:

Did you introduce them properly? You should have introduced them on a couch (or some other nuetral area), one person holding one guinea pig and the other person holding the other. The 2 people should then let the guinea pigs go and make sure that you let the guinea pigs find each other in their own time.
