Why is my hamster chewing on her cage bars2007-11-24 22:19:59

Give her lots of things to chew on instead of biting on the wires of the cage.

My hamster does that all the time and she wakes me up in the night but I pick her up & cuddle her.

But whatever you do, don't put things like cardboard toilet rolls in there because your hamster might start eating it.. Mine did! :O

Because she is bored.

Make sure she comes out of her cage every evening for at LEAST 30 minutes, and let her race around the house in a hamster exercise ball.

Hang a cereal chew bar in her cage, this will be much more appealing to her to have a chew on rather than the bars of the cage!!

All pet stores sell wooden blocks, and toys for hamsters to chew on too, she may well prefere these too. Try to stop her from doing it though, as I have seen on several hamster care web sites and books that this can cause brain hemeragies in hamsters.

I have had 5 hamsters in my past and so I know abit.. The most likley reasons why hamsters chew on there cages is to shorted its teeth and keep them healthy from over growing...If you buy a cage with no avalable wire or metal for chewing you mine as well say good by to your little hamster friend because long teeth = no food and no food = death...

you need to get her some chew sticks because there teeth are constantly growing. she is trying to shorten her teeth or get out probably both
