If you were a little hamster, would you rather do what comes naturally somewhere that you felt safe and protected, or would you do it out in the open where you could be watched by predators and humans on the other side of the bars of your cage.

Is the rest of his cage very exposed? Is there enough wood shavings, straw or shredded paper in the rest of his cage? Maybe you could try putting some other small boxes in there to offer him some privacy. Hamsters like to use one particular place for toileting. You could try putting a glass or ceramic jar in one corner of his cage and fill this with absorbant material.

Ive had many hamsters and all of them have gone to the restroom in their bed. I bought a litter box and put it on the outside. If you get a litter box just put some hamster "raisins" in the litter box, he will get the hang of it soon. They can be litter trained, most of mine were, some have no interest in it. Good luck!

because that's what they do ... they will not pee in there bed but to poo in bed that's fair game .. I'm not sure why .. but it is normal .. and there isn't usually anything you can do ...

That's normal. It's not that they're lazy, they do that in the wild too. They're used to it.
