Why is my hamster in attack mode2007-11-24 22:19:59

he is about 7 weeks old and throws himself onto his back with his claws out baring his teeth at me in a really agressive way. i have a 16 month old daughter who i won't allow near him now. is there a cure?

Answers:

He was probably not handled at the pet store where you got him, so he's not used to being handled. When your daughter is asleep (preferrably at night, when he's active), hold him, and get him used to being held and loved. This may take a week or so.

If he's awakened during the day (I have a 5 year old daughter, and 4 hamsters), then he's likely to be aggressive in that manner. Try to keep her away from the cage, and don't let her stick anything like a pen or any other object in the cage to bother him, if that happens, all your effort at taming the hamster is lost.

I have a hamster that I tamed in one day, he's my daughter's hamster; he comes when called, and loves to be held, and even gives kisses on our noses. It just takes patience, and love.

no ...he will be like that forver...he is a rat in way..they never give that up.

Not with hampsters; there is no way to train them not to do that. I have never seen a hampster do that before.

maybe for the babys sake,you should look for a new home for your wee hamster.

I think you would have to hold him regularly. Since you have taken the responsibility for him, you must now "tame" him.
