Why is my hamster sad

Why is my hamster sad2007-11-24 22:19:27

I have a hamser. He is about 4 months old. Recently he has been squeeking in the evenings. This is in the summer. I live in California where right now it's about 95 Degrees. Is it because of the heat? Why is he sad? He doesn't eat that well. Should i give it more treats. When i take it out it justs sits there. When he was younger, he would be riding on his wheel all night. Now he uses it as a bed during the day and night. Somethimes i wonder if it's dead. But ... it's not. How can i make him more active? Is there something he needs?

I know there are alot of questions. I would realy appreciated if u helped me {and Pepe} answer most.

Its nice of you to be so concerned about your pet, and I will do my best to answer every question you have.

Try moving your hamster to a cooler area of the house. Often, lower levels of a house will be several degrees cooler than higher floors. If theres any air conditioned rooms, move your hamster there, and possibly start a fan to cool him off.

Take your hamster to the vet if you can afford it. If you can't, its okay. I still have some suggestions that will help your hammie feel better.

Try feeding your hamster a pinch of nutritional yeast or half a yeast pill per week. Yeast activly reduces stress in hamsters, which is the primary cause of many hamster diseases. Do not give bakers yeast because it has a bitter taste. Nutritional yeast can be found in health food stores, and plain yeast pills can be found in the cat or dog section of a pet shop.
