Why is the lifespan of a mouse 2 yrs2007-11-24 22:19:30

I have 2 mice that ive had for a year and a half, and another female who just had babies.

Im worried that the boys will just die. They are nearing 2yrs. So...how does it happen? And why would their deaths be considered "old age" if they'ere only 2?

I was thinking of adopting them out...just so i dont have to witness there death. Fortunatly i have 8 one week old babies to keep me going.

All/any opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks

you have to understand the smaller, the younger they appear to die. but all animals have a range of aging. it'll take them fast to age in to adult and in to an old animal.

i feel that you should be there there for your mouse untill death. keep them happy to what lasting of them. you have to witness it. having pets comes to have a friend. soon your female and baby mice are going be in their position. adopting them out becuz their old isnt very positive. i know its hard when the time comes but alot of mice (such of lab ones) dont even get that love and care.

also its not always 2 years that they die. even if its reached 2 years they can stay strong for a few months. if they're very healthy and strong they can live up to 3-4 years.

really depend if you feed them to your snake lol
That is just there nature but they can live longer if you treat them right and take very good care of them! There really is no explanation! That is like saying how come humans are considered old when they are 40! That is just there nature ! Hope this helped!
About a year
Ummm! they tend to have alot of babies at one time. and their a small animal. but adopting them out only make some one else have to wintess their demise. Not quite tops on a friends list of things they'd want done to them.
The simple answer is they die after about two years because they are programmed to do so. Their metabolism and stress hormones just wear them down. Their heart rates are very high (I think over 150 beats per minute) and all systems work much quicker (they can mate at 3 months, I believe).

The just pack a lot of living in a short amount of time.

Three years or rarely four years. I have had a few mice live to be three years old. It all depends on how well you take care of them.
Stress!
their hearts are so little and they beat so fast that they just wear out after about that long. although i had a female that lived to be five.
