Why my guinea pig keep stay in he hide out2007-11-24 22:19:35Answers:

He is probably just scared. Give him some time.

It would help if you would adopt him a same-sex buddy. Guinea pigs really do best in pairs.

he could be scared or tired but he could also be sick i would check of him just in case and if anything take him to a vet
it's probably because it's scared. Don't worry. If you are worried that it's not eating, it probably eats and drinks when you aren't there. Maybe you should start petting him/her more, and let it eat out of your hand. then it will gain more trust in you and stay out of his hideout.
thats normal. he is probally a lazy guinea pig! my gerbil hides all the time. just take him out of his cage and play with him so he gets to know you more so he will not be scared.
It is purely because he is scared and unsure of his surroundings. You need to give him time, he is not going to become brave after a few hours. In the wild guinea pigs are prey animals, when they are scared they hide amongst the grass or in a little dug out. The same thing applies to guinea pigs in captivity. As long as you have provided food and water I would leave him alone for a while. You can check on him every couple of hours if you want.

Good Luck!!
