Why wont my hamster2007-11-24 22:19:32

Okay well I just my hamster yesterday and for some reason he won't drink his water!! I dunno why! Mabye he drank it when I was sleeping but I haven't seen him drinking it!! What's wrong? He eats his food and everything but I saw him chewing on his bedding (pine shavings) is that okay?

Hamsters are not very active during the day, they are nocturnal so I wouldn't worry about him, if he's eating and chewing on stuff he is drinking when your not around, at night ect.hamster's will chew on anything their teeth grow non-stop and chewing on the shavings he is probley just chewing for the sake of chewing or as part of making his bed/nest.

Hes fine, he'll drink when he's thirsty. He can chew on his bedding. They wouldnt want you to put it in there if it could harm him.

i'm sure he is drinking. just watch him to see if his health changes. and i would change out the pine bedding. any sort of wood shaving is bad for their liver. i use this crazy crushed paper stuff (undyed and animal safe) for my hamster and rats. one is good for them and two it help my allergies!

You need not be concerned about the animal not drinking water. These little guys drink so little at a time, it hardly seems like they are drinking anything at all.

ya he it sharpening his teeth or he likes the taste of the pine, I have a trick put you finger in the cage and dab the place where your water comes out he will see the movement and go to see what it is, sniff it and then lick the water and he will probably keep drinking it from there on that always works so try it.if that doesn't work try filling your water entirly with bottled water and he will drink it some are picky that way like mine.
