Well, there are a number of things you can do.

1. You do not have to have your gerbil where you sleep.

2. You can also oil and/or modify the wheel to where it makes less noise.

3. You can remove the wheel when you go to bed and replace in the morning.

4. You can get him out during the day and play with him some. Placing him in a hamster/gerbil ball earlier on and letting him roll around might wear him out.

While I am at it, a couple of notes. One, there is no "p" in hamster. The other thing is that hamsters and gerbils are different. Gerbils have hairy tails, hamsters have only a tiny stub for a tail. Rats and mice have bald tails.

Ahh I know what you mean I have guenia pigs and they get annoying at night too. Um you could try talking out the wheel just for one night and see what happens. Maybe replace the wheel with a differnet toy your hamster might like so he/she won't think about the wheel. If it doesn't work just put the wheel back and get used to the sound. I go to sleep by listeing to my guenia pig drink. :)

He is up all night trying to run away from his cage.

He probably runs, gets out, looks around, runs, gets out looks around..The poor thing is miserable.
