Take the wheel out if it bothers you, but really, you should give the poor thing either larger cage/fishtank, or give it to someone who wont be bothered by the noise.
is he ur only hamster?...If that's the case then its just from all the pent up sexual tension...the man wants some hamster *****
Please dont take the wheel out. It is important to ensure that gerbils get their exercise in order to stay healthy. Try moving the cage to another room in your house or close the door at night. I have 4 chinchillas and they often run all night on their wheel too. We just had to put them in another room and you soon stop hearing it. Try putting a towel underneath the cage in order to stop the vibrations echoing. Oiling the wheel is a good idea too but you need to ensure that you something like sunflower oil(natural oil) NOT WD40 or anything of the sort because this could seriously harm your gerbil. I'm sorry but this question just made me laugh. I have had many gerbils and they all loved their wheels! There is really nothing you can do about this exept remove the wheel which is cruel and they will just find something else with which to keep you awake. Is he on his own? If so he could be lonely - you should never have a gerbil on its own. What I found was that I eventually got completely used to the noise and now I don't even notice it. mine did the same thing. at night if he started running i would just turn this little knob on the wheel so that way it wouldnt move, so he couldnt run on it. but then i would give him a piece of card bored for him to chew on so the way he would be occupied for a while. but then in the morning i would fix the wheel so he could run again
you could put vaseline on the wheel to help make the sound stop.
