cause they do not understand but a dog a cat you tell them to

stop a dog would listen but a cat it take a while before they

listen. so just do not get upset mad at your pet rat he is being who he is a rat.

rats LOVE to hide their food all over the cage. i use ferret bowls that screw onto the side of the cage. ergo, they cannot move them at all.

i have 7 rats and they work great for me.

they have never offered to chew them in case your wondering.

sugarlove_1 is not speaking from personal experience i don't think, rats are trainable and very smart. she is right about one thing though, when your rat hides the food, its being a rat!

I disagree with the comment above...rats are much different then mice and hampster anyone that has had one could tell you that! Rats are very friendly and have strong personalities! Anyways, back to the question...he might be scared of it after it falling over everytime he tried to eat! Rats like to sit on the side of the dish so you should try to look for a new dish that he can sit on the side of without it falling over. You can get one at probably just about any pet store or you can make one like I did...I took a bigger plastic bowl and cut the bottom out, flipped it over and put a smaller bowl in it. rats like to stash there food maybe thats why, and it should matter anyways the food gets everywhere from when they nibble and dont finish there food.

This happened to me... & I solved it by changing their rat food. Often rat food is filled with food that the rats don't like and so they dump the bowl searching for more of their favorite tidbits =)

I started making my own rat food after getting tired of paying 6 dollars for a bag of rat food that the little rodent only ate a third of and wasted the rest by dumping it on the floor. Also, some rat foods have foods such as corn in it that are unhealthy.
