Wild Mouse

There was a mouse in our house and we recently humanely caught it and he is now in a hampster cage. He's wide clear eyed, decently active, and healthy looking. Could we keep him as a pet? What if we took him to a vet? What are some possible diseases that mice could carry? Examples?

Answers:

I'm glad you caught it humanely, but I don't think I'll ever understand why people desire to take things away from their real lives and look at them in a cage.

I know it's adorable, and I know it's tempting to keep it, but please, just release it. If you really want a mouse, head over the a pet store tomorrow and pay $3 for one, and let this one live where it was meant to. Mice make great pets (I've had many), but this one will never be as happy or as comfortable around you, or as healthy, as a domestically raised mouse. Do what's best for both of you and release it.

Well wild mice are meant to live in the wild. It won't like being in a cage. If you want a mouse, you could go to Petco and get one (you should get more than one, they'll very social and like to live together) for less than $2. And you don't have to worry about disease. This way you get a mouse that is used to being in a cage and is used to people. I hope this helps =]
careful, he will prob bite. I dont think mice are exposed to any more things that dogs, cats and other animals are.. This sounds like something I would do..but..Im sure the mouse would be a lot happier living his life how he used to. His mum is probably beside herself with worry and his brothers and sisters would miss him. He may even be married with children...let him go, no-one wants to spend their life in a cage in someones bedroom.. Go on! Do it for the mousey!
Wild mice can carry many diseases including hepatitis a,b &c, HIV/AIDS, Salminala and many more...
