Will 2 hamsters that are from the same litter and sex fight when they get bigger2007-11-24 22:20:02

I bread my female hamster a couple of weeks ago and she had 8 babies and i kept 3 of them 2 females and 1male. Ive got the 2 females in the same cage and the male in another. The 2 females are happy together at the min,but when they get bigger will they start to fight over territory in the cage, even though they are from the same litter and have grew up together?

Answers:

When I had hamsters, they all got along fine for about a year, and then one day, they just began attacking each other and I had to get different cages. The people I consulted said that hamsters, even that had lived together their whole life, can become territorial and fight at any time for any reason. But it doesn't necessarily mean they will.

Yes, yes Yes--after they are a certain age you will need to separate them or they can and will kill each other.
I am not sure how true this is...but a rodent rep at a local pet store told us that the only hamsters that can be safely kept together are dwarf hamsters. Any others will fight. My nephews kept to dwarfs together with no issue, so it worked in their case.
If they are syrian (teddy bear) hamsters, then yes. You will need to separate when they are about 8 weeks old (possibly sooner if you notice them picking on one another). Syrians are solitary animals. They love people, but will not tolerate another hamster as a cage mate after they reach maturity. If you leave them together as adults, they will fight to the death. It's important to separate them before one gets hurt.
Well if they are syrian hamsters (teddy bear, panda bear, fancy hamsters) then they will fihgt if they are dwarf hamsters then it will be ok but they still might fight!
Of Course. But It Might Be Expensive. I'd Get Each hamster They're Own Cage. [Easier Said Then Done]
Yes, females are actually more territorial than males. Two males that grow up together would be ok, but two females will end up fighting eventually.
