I'm just telling you that because a lot of people act as if pet rats are the same as alley rats, which they are not.

They are playful, intelligent, like humans a LOT, are clean and easy to keep and if they do get out of their cage, you can actually find them, as opposed to those very cute, but very small mice.

Rats like people. I had a rabbit who seemed to like to hide from people, but my pet now will come over to visit me and get a petting, kind of like a dog. Unlike dogs, they are inexpensive to keep and don't have to be walked on cold winter days.

The vet said that the two best rodents for beginning pet owners to have are rats and chinchillas, so that's my recommendation. The vet knows his stuff!

yeah go for it, as long as they dont get away, see i have a hamster and they are so easy to take care of. just clean out his cage every once a week, feed him or her, and give them water they will be just fine. good luck i hope your mom lets you get one!

You might want to consider a pair of rats instead. They're calmer & smarter than mice & usually enjoy playing with humans more than mice do. Get either 2 girls or 2 boys so they can hang out together when you're not there. Rats are very social animals & get lonely. Also, you'll have lots of fun watching them play together.

Mice are cute & charming because they're so tiny but can be very nervous. If you decide on mice, please get 2 girls so they can keep each other company. If you get 2 boys they may fight so girls are usually the better choice with mice. Also, don't forget that mice can squeeze out of *very* small openings & can run really fast, so you need to be very careful that they don't escape.
