Whichever pets you decide on, try to adopt them as babies so they'll be easier to socialize. Also, ask to hold anybody you're interested in so you'll have an idea of how calm & friendly they are-- but remember that they'll probably be nervous at the pet shop. It's best if you can find a breeder or a small animal rescue but pet shops are ok if they don't crowd their animals & if they let you hold the pets you are thinking about adopting. Good luck with your new little friends.
Mice are cute and really sweet, but also fast and have sharp teeth. Trust me on that one. If you get one, just be sure to take it slow trying to tame it.
I hear that mice are very nice as pets. Get 2 of the same sex if you can, so they'll have company without making unexpected baby mice. Read a lot about them so you won't make any care-giver errors setting up their cage, etc.
They run faster than hamsters or gerbils and usually stick to the edges of the wall. They can squeeze themselves very thin or flat and can climb pretty well. They also have great jumping ability. If you think you're ready for the challenge, and can keep up with them, go for it.
