Will a rat get along with a ferret
i have a pet rat, i wanted to get another ferret.
will the ferret live happily with the rat?
Answers:Ferrets and rats shouldn't be housed together for the safety of your rat. A rat does need a companion however to keep from getting bored while your not at home. Consider getting another rat of same sex. They can be introduced by dabbing a little vanilla on them to mask their own smell. Also clean the cage so the smell from your first one is less. Putting some of the vanilla on the litter is also a good idea and it's safe to use. A good age to get is an 8-10 week old rat since they are more readily accepted by an older one.
We have 11 rats and have introduced an older female to 2 younger females, all are now housed in the same cage. In a few weeks, I'm planning on introducing my 3 juvenile males to 2 approximately 4 month old males in a new huge cage.
If you alredy have a ferret don't have them out at the same time for safety reasons. We have many small animals, but don't mix them during play time.
NO NO NO! Ferrets naturally eat rats! i spose if they were raised together from babies you maybe alright, but it would be very dangerous. Besides, rats are very territorial, if this ferret is a lil baby..the rat will attack her. Be very careful
The ferret will kill the rat, please don't even attempt it. If you want to get the rat a buddy, try another rat. If you simply want a ferret, keep them apart and safely confined.
