Will hamsters die is they are let free2007-11-24 22:20:04

I had some mice as a kid, a couple escaped and it wasn't until years later when we moved did we find their dried out little bodies. We were surprised that there was no real odor from it.

You want a fun pet that not only is easy to care for but you can actually interact with, get a rat.

It actually does have a good chance of living if it is still in your house. If he made it to the outside world, he could have been eaten. This may sound silly when refering to rodents, but your hamster is a domestic animal, and is not equiped for the wild. If he is alive and is in the house, you will find him, because he will not be afraid of you like a wild mouse or rodent would be, so he wouldn't scurry away and hide as much as a wild rodent.
Watch the kitchen and bathroom areas closely, especially at night. They are a water source and he/she might turn up there. I'm not sure if they make live traps for animals hamster size, but they have them for mice at Wal-Mart and Tractor Supply Company.
well one thing don't use a wooden cage the hamster could possibly be dead since it doesn't have water or food

and i say a teddy bear hamster are good pets they are very fuzzy and cute and love to be held and next to that i either say a dalmation or golden hamster

hope i helped

First of all, find the hamster. If you have no clue where he could be by now, look for signs of where he might be and go from there. You also could find a live rodent trap (PETA.org sells them for $10 or so) and set it up somewhere in the house with tasty treats inside. Just be sure to check it often so he does not starve to death in there once he is caught. If you don't want to have to buy a trap, leave a box out with a peanut or cheerio inside and wait to see if he comes to investigate, and then pick up the box. If you can't watch the box but notice the peanut is missing, at least you know the little guy is alive and well-fed. Don't even think about getting a new hamster until you find the old one. Hamsters are RODENTS, which means that they have to keep chewing to wear down their continuously growing teeth. Aside from the cleanliness problem of leaving little "presents" for you all over your house, this little guy could be chewing up your furniture, computer cords, clothes, etc. I don't know how long he has been missing, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's still in your house. Check the pantry.
