Will my gerbils be ok
please read before answering:
i have 2 gerbils, i have had them for about 5 months now. my family and i are going to washington d.c. for vacation in july for about a week.
we were going to give them to my mom's vet assistant, because she has gerbils, but she just lost one of her's and found it dead a few days later, so no.
we can't take them with us.
if i put a full bottle of water and two bowls of food in their cage with them, will they be ok? what else do i need to do? will they remember me when i get back?
Answers:how many times per week do you have to fill their water bottle? If you only fill it once a week then they should have plenty of water. About the food, I know with my hamster and my mice that when I leave for the weekend and give them a bowl full of food they take it and stash it everywhere and probably eat it all in a day or so. If you give them enough food to last them the week and they dont gorge themselves on it then I would say they will be fine. I'd say they will be fine as long as theres enough water.
After leaving my bunch alone for two days with the food I give them they pack on some weight and are fat so I wouldnt be too surprised if they get fat by the time you come back. Luckily small rodents have a fast metabolism and can lose the excess pretty quickly.
they should be, but you might want to have someone check on them
just don't ask richard gere
well i know that one bottle of water will not help they would need 2 bottles and if u are afrade they will not remember you than play with them all the time untill it is time for u to go. and then if you dont want to leave them alone for a month see if one of ur friends can keep them for a while.
I don't think so they might eat all of it all at once its just not safe and i really wouldn't risk it. I would have a friend take care of it and pay them or not pay them just ask them for a favor. Or put signs up in your neighborhood about pet sitting put your phone number and say you will pay 10 or 5 dollars a a day. Or put more for better chances of getting people to do it. You should interview them and there parents and people who know them to see how responsible they really are!
