Will my hamster die if it has a tumor
he lives alone exersises and eats normally what caused the tumor
Answers:Yes, a tumor will kill your hamster. As the tumor begins to grow it will leach out nutrients from the body(to grow larger) and the hamster will die from that. It is slow and sad death.
There are vets that will operate on tumors in hamsters. If the vet is knowledgeable than the chances of survival are good. I have had rats get tumor removals and none have died on the operating table. The thing is, you have to make the decision quick. Tumors in rodents grow fast and within a few days it will be too big to operate. It is best to get it removed when it is small.
If you cannot get the tumor removed than allow the hamster to live out the rest of their quality days/weeks and when he begins to sleep all the time, no longer eats, runs in the wheel then the best and most humane thing is to have the vet put the hamster down so it doesn't suffer and eventually starve to death.
See the origin of tumors in animals is mostly genetic(since they don't smoke, drink or eat junk food ;) ).
More seriously, most probably the hamster was carrying a defective allele which led to the tumor. Please take him to a good vet and check the stage of tumor and whether or not it will respond to chemotherapy or surgery.
If it has progressed too much then I'm afraid that there is little anyone can do to save him
Mine did :'( but it also got cancer some how, she was super healthy and was 3. It may be OK if you get it operated on by a pro... pro.
if you caught the tumor in its first stage which is not yet cancerous, it can be cure by surgery but if you caught the tumor in its third stage, which is deadly then no, the hamster have less chance of survival. If human can die from cancer, other animals would too.
yes your hamster will die if it has a tumor im really feeling very bad for your hamster
That will depend if the tumor is cancerous. If it is there will be nothing you can do but keep your hamster happy and comfortable with lots of love. Hamsters are so small and delicate, that they can never really be treated for cancer. im so soory. Tumors are very common in hamsters.
