Will sand baths work for a panda hamster like it does for a dwarf hamster2007-11-24 22:20:09

If you are having an issue with a dirty hamster, you should bathe him with water and small animal shampoo...

FYI: adding any kind of essence to the sand is not a very good idea, It could be harmful to the animal...they do make chinchilla dust with vanilla scent already in it, so it's safe...

Also, for the people who are going to tell you that bathing your hamster will give it wet tail.NO! It will not...Wet tail is a disease caused mainly by high stress...it's severe diarrhea...it's called wet tail because the diarrhea makes thier tails all wet and nasty...

I use bath sand on my Syrian hamster, only when she is looking a little greasy behind the neck. I sprinkle a bit on her neck and head. She does the rest by grooming it into her fur to make it look fluffy and soft again. She uses a dish of sand, just not to bathe in, more like a litterbox.

And you should not add anything to bath sand. There are scented sands you can buy that come in Vanilla, Raspberry, and a few other good smells. Some pets like the scented sand, and some others take one sniff and run away.

I think if you sprinkled your Syrian hamster, it will not hurt them, and it will bring some of the softness back to their fur.

Yes it will work with any hamster but you know you really don't have to give your hamster a sand bath. You only need to when the hamster smells really bad and you have to clean the cage because hamsters don't really smell its only there cages that smell most of the time!
