Will two male hamsters fight if in a 10 gal cage2007-11-24 22:20:10

is glass cage better for hamsters or a wire cage?

Answers:

The type of cage has nothing to do with whether or not they will fight. Two male Syrian hamsters (or female for that matter) will ALWAYS fight to the death if you put them in the same cage. Dwarf hamsters--male or female--may be kept together in the same cage as long as you buy two at the same time that are from the same litter.

For larger hamsters, a wire cage is best because it provides better ventilation. Although you should purchase one that has a solid bottom b/c wire bottomed cages can be bad for their feet.

If you choose to go with two dwarf hamsters, you can get a 10 gal aquarium. This may be the best choice b/c these guys are small and can squeeze through even smaller spaces. The glass aquarium eliminates this problem. If you clean and maintain it properly, you will not have to worry about odor.

If they are similar size and no female around I would guess no.
Two male hamsters will fight in an acre of woodland. It's just how they are. NEVER keep males together.

Wire cages or habitrails are better for hamsters, glass tanks tend to get very hot and have poor ventilation.

i personally like glass becasue they cant CHEW on the bars and keep me up al night

but wire does have good ventaltion

but like i said .chew

but as long as its big i dont think the hamster will mind
