In the wild, guinea pigs live in huge herds. They are very social animals and get very depressed if they don't have another guinea pig with which to "talk" to or play. This is the reason you should always get a pair. Not only is it good for your piggie to have a friend, but you get double the fun of watching their antics! They are hilarious chasing each other, snuggling together, etc.

If you visit a local shelter or rescue, they usually have pairs that are already "bonded", meaning they get along well together. You can find a rescue or shelter near you by visiting http://www.petfinder.com/ & doing the quick search on the left side of the page.

Also, pigs from a reputable rescue will not have parasites or illness. They are screened before they are ever allowed to be put up for adoption. Pet store pigs are usually sick or have parasites. Please consider adopting a couple of piggies! They are adorable pets.

its okay you can have just one. but if you work alot or have school or sumthing all day, then it mite get lonely, so get another one, but you dont have to.

I only have one, but I give him A LOT of attention ... I take him out all the time, let him run around, and sit with him on my lap as I watch TV. (He likes to cuddle in my arms and fall asleep!). Also, when I sit on the floor, he literally jumps into my arms!

If you only have one they do require a whole lot of attention or else they get bored fast.
