Would a male rat escape through a cage with 1" spacing between bars2007-11-24 22:20:13

is he big small or medium sized?? ?? ?? So

try judging it by the size of your Rattie!

actually they can rats can go through 1\2 inch
if they can fit their head through than they can fit the rest of their body. I would get a cage with smaller spacing.
My rat is fat and he could fit through a 1" space
yes. rats have an extremly flexible spinal system. they can also jump well. i would recoment at most 1/2 an inch, depending on the size of your rat. hope this helps! =]
It will depend on the size of the rat. A baby or young male rat may be able to get through it but a fully grown male shouldn't be able to.
Well I am not sure if it would be the same for hamsters but I hear whatever a hamster could fit his head in, the rest of the body will fit in. To be on the safe side, I'd get a new cage or something.
if a rat can get his head through the bars - then he can get out

although he may or may not want to

the cage is his home

I would think sooo... Rats are flexible not like mice but... I had a four story cage and i believe the bars were tiny... enough for them to crawl around and hang upside down... but 1" is pretty big
