Would a rat be ok in a guinea pig cage
Guinea pig cages, and the bigger rabbit cages, are my number one cage of choice for old rats, or one to two adult male or female rats, and my single, aggressive, males live in GP cages. GP cages are easily out-fitted to accommodate rats.

I am hoping you mean without the guinea pig? But, from some of the questions I have seen lately, you never can tell.
If the Guinea pig is in the cage, absolutely no way. Without the guinea pig, probably not. It all depends on the cage. Rats can squeeze through small openings and most Guinea pig cages have too wide of bar spacing to keep a rat in.
why not? i have a hamster in one it gives them a lot of space to run around in. the more space the better
It should be fine as long as it can't escape.and they're quite good at escaping. Also, be sure to give the rat something to chew on to wear its teeth down everyday so it doesn't chew on the cage.
remember this, rats can fit anywhere there Head can fit.

yea, but remember the more rats you have the bigger the cage should be.
The wires have more space in between them in a guinea pig cage than in a rats cage so the rat would be able to escape easily. I wouldn't suggest using that unless you want it to escape in your house.
i have housed all my rats in a GP cage at one time or another and they've NEVER escaped. being that i have 5 rats and i have through trail and error have tried all sorts of cages. i have to agree that the GP cage is one of my faves the only down fall is theres not a second story shelf. through creative thinking on your part that can be made easily. also you have enough room to put hide boxes, wheels and toys.
