Would gerbils and hamsters work good together
No, Syrian hamsters are territorial to most others like the gerbils. Gerbils can also be territorial as well and both would end up fighting resulting in injuries or death to one or both.
Now my reason for saying most others, is that I've managed to socialize 8 Syrian males at present and several other in the past (deceased now) with dwarf Russian & Winter Whites hamsters. Some have been cage mates for over 17 months now. For 3 Syrian males that's their entire life (raised by Russian dwarf mother after their mother died when they and a sister were only 9 days old, had been 9 but 5 passed). The male Syrians are very protective of their dwarf cage mate too to the point they will go into a depression when one dies. Dwarfs live 1 1/2 -2 yrs and Syrians live 2 1/2-3 yrs so we've had quite a few that we had to move a single dwarf to a male Syrians cage and it always helps to avoid depression.
No, hamsters are very territorial and would kill the gerbil.
No a hamster would kill a gerbil. A couple of gerbils will together though.
