Would it harm a hamster if they were being flown from New York to Florida2007-11-24 22:20:16

Well, it depends on how you are going to transport your hamster. By car? By airplane? By boat? With any of these, it does put some stress on the hamster. If you MUST transport your hamster, make sure that you take plenty of pit-stops. That way, you can check on your hamster, make sure that he she could get a run in a hamster ball (if you have one!). But, DO NOT give your hamster food. You may give your hamster water, but NOT food! The food could upset your hamster's stomach on a windy road, or just on a long drive. On one of your pit-stops, you may give your hamster some food, but, remember, give your hamster at least 1 hour before driving again. probably not if you put it in a small cage or in your pocket and carried it around for the whole flight it will probably SHlT on you though and itl get thirsty

It may if it is traveling in the cargo area of the plane, as it is colder down there and its little body may not be able to adapt. Bigger dogs fair ok but there are risks involved. Usually there are so many seats a lotted per flight that allow small animals to travel in an FAA approved pet carrier that can be stowed under the seat. There is a fee assicated with this. I have been on flights with cats, birds and rodents.
