Would this be a good cage system for rats2007-11-24 22:18:28

Hi,

I was thinking of in the furtue about adopting 2 rats because I miss my babys so much! Anyways, if I got the rats as babys and put them in this cage, would that be okay?

Then as they hit heir half a year birthday I would add another level.

When they hit thier 1 year birthday I would add another level.

I would probably make it a 3 level cage and I would cover up the plastic holes on the bottom to prevent bumblefoot.

It's the Super Pet My First Home 2'x2' Multi-Floor Home from ferret.com. It is priced well, takes up more vertical space than horizontal, has safe shelving and works well for rats. I think the cages you showed will do fine, but the expense over time would be more and it may be harder to clean since it is in different sections.

I've heard nothing but good things about this cage and I have one on the way to replace the cage I have for my rats now.

I don't like the cage set up and i don't think it is going to work. I realize your parents only want you to spend so much money so try to find a used cage, ask around see if anyone has a cage kicking around. Look online for a cage they tend to be cheaper than a pet store.check ebay out. I know its a big investment but its worth it they make wonderfull pets

I'm actually not too sure about that cage. That cage says it's for a guinea pig, chinchilla or a ferret, and since a rat is a little smaller than those animals, i wouldn't want your rat escaping. I looked on petsmart an found this cage, the "Super Pet Deluxe Critter Home" and thought it might be a little safer, than one for bigger animals, because it's for rats. Hope you find a good home for your 2 rats!
