squirrels like any other animal around, can bite when threatened, or when they feel that they have to defend themselves. otherwise, they can actually be a very cute and cuddly little animal. if you treat them with respect and love, they will show you the same thing.

A wild one? No...too risky..

I do work for the wildlife rehab folks in N. AL..and have raised orphaned baby squirrels..so, yes I did pet them until they go older.. then they were transferred to cages outside to see the others in nature..then left doors open to cages, and they would come/go as liked and would lock them dwn at night until felt ready and would take time until they fully left. I would not still just let a 'friendly' squirrel come up to me and touch it. Their bite does hurt...at least a lil.. but , u probably won't know where it came from...

worse off, never touch a raccoon.if you see on out at day..Bad SIGN...stay away...

When I saw a poor squirrel that was ran over on my street, I went and pet its tail. It was cool. and soft. haha

No. A wild pet squirrel stays alive by being very vigilant. It'd be near impossible for you to get close enough to one to touch. If you did, the response would probably to bite you.

We raised a little squirrel from little (and bottle-fed him). But when he grew up, he upped and left. He would come by every few days and enter by the kitchen window for some treats but he didn't let us touch him anymore. After a few months, he stopped coming altogether.
